About Our Gelato!
What is gelato?
Gelato is authentic Italian-style ice cream. Pronounced “jau-LAH-toe,” in Italian, it means "frozen."
How is gelato different from American-style ice cream?
Gelato has less butterfat and less air whipped into that than American-style ice cream. We use all natural ingredients in our gelato (no artificial flavors, preservatives or colors, except for flavors that contain American candies/cookies).
Why does gelato have a MORE INTENSE FLAVOR than American-style ice cream?
Butterfat coats your taste buds! Gelato uses primarily milk, instead of cream, and therefore has about 1/3 of the butterfat found super-premium American-style ice cream. Super-premium brands have 16-20%; ours has an average of 5-6% (our chocolate has as low as 3%.)
Why is gelato CREAMIER than American-style ice cream?
Gelato has less air whipped into it and is served at a slightly warmer temperature than than American-style ice cream, resulting in a smoother, denser texture. Most American-style ice cream has about 60% air by volume; ours has an average of 20%. More dessert for your money!
Do we use artifical flavors & preservatives?
No! We use all-natural ingredients in our gelato with no artificial flavors, preservatives or colors (except for flavors that contain American candies/cookies like Oreo Explosion, Rocky Road, Snickers Surprise, etc.). Our product is fresh and our flavors are pure!
What does artisan mean?
To us, artisan means our product is hand-made, fresh, every day, using
all-natural ingredients. Each batch is taste-tested to ensure the highest
quality possible; nothing is determined solely by a formula. We always look
for the freshest, best ingredients, and strive to support local farms and
suppliers, especially for dairy & fruits, whenever possible. We are
family-owned, and strive to infuse the utmost personality and integrity
into our gelato and sorbet.
